Samuel Vega Estevez is a Scientist at EIT. In his role, Samuel assists in the preparation, handling and processing of samples for sequencing, ensuring that all procedures are conducted in compliance with safety and quality standards. Moreover, Samuel provides a scientific support function to the different teams within the EIT, which enables the development of our state-of-the-art laboratory and the advancement of scientific innovations.
Samuel holds a PhD in Genetics from the University of Kent, where he focused on the study of the genomic instability of the non-conventional yeast Scheffersomyces stipitis using different sequencing approaches, and how this instability can condition both adaptation to industrial settings and improvements in fermentation profiles. He then used this experience on genomic profiling and sequencing analysis during his Postdoctoral research on the human pathogen Candida albicans and in cancer cell lines at the University of Kent and University of Oxford, respectively.
In his spare time, Samuel enjoys cinema, reading, photography and outdoors sports like hiking and running.
