InterdisciplInary Collaboration

A faculty of world-class scientists

Led by our Global President, Dr Santa Ono, the Ellison Institute of Technology comprises of a world-class faculty of scientists, technologists, changemakers, economists and entrepreneurs. Together we are breaking down the silos between science, research, industry and policy.

Our mission

Humane Endeavours

Global challenges are rapidly compounding in size and complexity. Our mission is to deliver scaled solutions to humanity's important problems, with a focus on four endeavours: Health, Medical Science & Generative Biology, Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture, Climate Change & Managing Atmospheric CO2 and Artificial Intelligence & Robotics.

Across these endeavours we’re mapping out the expansive and complex interconnected sets of problems spanning technology, economics, policy and many different scientific disciplines. Our programs and platforms work in synergy to tackle the whole challenge, not just one part of it.

Health, Medical Science & Generative Biology

To improve human health and reduce health inequalities, we need to shift our global mindset from treatment to prevention. EIT is developing healthcare excellence in preventative medicine by combining rigorous research with cutting-edge technology. Our programs embed comprehensive and innovative system solutions that provide radical changes to the way healthcare is conceived and delivered across multiple domains such as pathogen diagnostics, prevention and modulating the immune response for health benefit.

Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture

The twin pressures of climate change and expanding populations are exerting ever increasing stress on agriculture and the natural world. At EIT, our aim is to develop impactful and commercially sustainable solutions for improving global food production and planetary health through groundbreaking research in plant science. Our approach leverages advances in AI and genetic technologies with a core mission to help farmers produce more food with less land and fewer resources.

Climate Change & Managing Atmospheric CO2

It is widely accepted that increasing levels of atmospheric CO2 is negatively impacting the earth’s climate and changing weather patterns around the globe. Humanity has responded by developing a variety clean energy generation and storage technologies. Yet, every year, atmospheric CO2 increases. EIT will focus on low-cost massively-scalable caron sequestration technologies that will slow or stop the continuous increases in atmospheric CO2.

Artificial Intelligence & Robotics

EIT aims to harness advanced statistical machine learning to find new breakthroughs in robotics and AI. We're combining foundation models with the latest robotic hardware to push the boundaries of what's possible. Our autonomous labs, for example, will drive high-speed, AI-guided experiments helping to shorten the research cycle from idea to result.

Ellison Scholars

Where education
meets innovation

An important part of EIT’s mission is to identify students from around the world and train them to be leaders with the skills to invent, improve and manage the next generation of technology. The Education & Scholarships programmes will fully fund selected students' study at the University of Oxford, where they will collaborate with other EIT Students and the EIT Faculty of Fellows on projects important to humanity.

Applications for the graduate Ellison Scholars are now open!

CAMPUS

A cutting-edge R&D facility for Oxford

Set for completion in 2027, our new campus will offer 30,000m² of research laboratories, educational meeting spaces and the EIT Clinic – a centre for healthcare innovation and excellence.

“Our design for Ellison Institute of Technology’s new Oxford campus creates a truly collaborative and nurturing environment, which will encourage research and breakthroughs. A primary objective of the project is to break down barriers between researchers, scientists, clinicians and patients, creating a human-centred and holistic approach to healthcare and technological innovation.”
